Summer Camp Inclusion Coordinator

Summer Camp Inclusion Coordinator will develop and provide training and ongoing direction and coordination to our Summer Camp Staff, One-to-one Access Workers and Inclusion Volunteers, to assist them in developing skills to manage a variety of behaviours. The Inclusion Volunteers provide additional supports to summer camps that have children who have disabilities or who may have trouble engaging with other campers for a variety of reasons: social, cultural, linguistic, etc. During the summer program, the coordinator also works with families/caregivers to implement existing support plans to promote consistency and most importantly: help everyone have fun and make friends at summer camp.
The Summer Camp Inclusion Coordinator will be supervised by the Access and Volunteer Program Coordinators.
The preferred applicants will possess: experience working with children of all ages; knowledge of group characteristics and age appropriate activities; the ability to effectively provide guided choices, instructions and directions to children; the ability to encourage appropriate behaviour; the ability to assess situations involving challenging individuals and behaviours; the ability to provide on-site training and guidance to camp leaders and volunteers; and experience working with families and other professionals. The Summer Camp Inclusion Coordinator directly assists children in the summer camps as well as coordinates camp coverage by the Inclusion Volunteers.
The successful candidate will possess valid Red Cross Standard First Aid Certification or equivalent. A valid class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle is preferred for this position in order to travel between summer camp programs at the West Vancouver Community Centre, Ambleside, Lighthouse Park and Gleneagles Community Centre. The following experience and education would be considered an asset: experience working with children with disabilities; experience working or volunteering within a recreational setting; experience working with and coordinating volunteers; Special Education Training or equivalent; ECE, B.Ed. Special Education Certificate, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Nursing, etc.
Successful applicants will be required to provide a current criminal record check and must be available as follows:
- In person interviews will be scheduled in April. (Skype interviews can be arranged if necessary.)
- Mandatory Day Camp Staff Training occurs around the end of June. It may take place on a weekend day.
- June 17- August 30, 2019 – Pre-camp meetings, site preparation and camp dates coordination

Hours of Work:
37.5 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)
Rate of Pay:
$28.55 to $33.61 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits
