Our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is looking for auxiliary Recreation Leader 2’s to work at Confederation Centre and the Bonsor 55+ Centre. The position includes program leadership and development, volunteer leadership, staff supervision, site supervision, publicity and promotion, and community development. Administrative requirements include program development, planning and input, monitoring of related cost centres, assistance with budget planning, and preparation of various correspondence and reports. The Recreation Leader 2 assumes responsibility for the operation and security of the facility; participates in the recruitment, hiring, and orientation of contract and auxiliary staff; enforces rules and regulations and ensures that required standards of behaviour and safety are maintained in the facility. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College, plus some related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of, and experience in, recreation, social, and cultural interests of seniors 55+; of organized community recreation principles and practices; of the policies, procedures, rules and regulations governing the work performed; of leadership principles, volunteer involvement, staff board relations and community development principles and computer skills. Ability to plan, initiate, coordinate, and lead various programs for the older adults; to participate in the interview process of auxiliary staff and contract instructors; to establish and maintain effective working  relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to speak in public. St. John’s First Aid and CPR certifications are desirable. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
