Wanted Part Time Handy/Repair Person to Maintain Marina & Income Properties
Compensation: 27.50 per hour
We are looking for a regular repairman to maintain our 20+ slip marina in the very East Area of Richmond, and a 5-unit apartment building in East Vancouver, plus other properties. For the right applicant, who is familiar with the trades the rate is 27.50 per hour, plus mileage and travel time. This job would best suit someone who does not need full time income and is semi-retired because we need a person to work with us on an ongoing basis – but we do not have full time work. On the other hand, if you could fit our work around other jobs that could work as well.
There is other work such as minor gardening, reading meters for which you would not need the same skill set. We are willing to divide the work in two and essentially employ two people paying less for gardening, meter reading, bathroom/shower cleaning. Or to pay one person if you want the work but some of the jobs are of a lower skill level.
The marina is called Riversbend Floating Home Village, and is located at 23,000 Dyke Road, Richmond. This is essentially # 11 Road and New Westminster Highway, ½ kilometers west of Boundary and Dyke. Boundary is the dividing line between Queensborough and Richmond on Lulu Island.
The apartment is located at 277 E. 24th St., Vancouver, between Main St. and Sophia St. We have various other properties we maintain as well.
You must have a valid driver’s license, a vehicle, your own tools and excellent references.
We’ve had these properties for decades and our regular maintenance man has now retired.
Typical maintenance activities include replacing dock boards at the marina, doing minor plumbing work at the apartment, changing a door or hiring the right person to fix a pothole or accomplish other special projects. You would also be doing regular site visits and reading electrical meters. There is an ongoing work flow and would likely take 25% of normal working week on average, although we can go for days with nothing to do. No two months are the same in terms of time required.
There is other work as well such as minor gardening, reading electrical meters, cleaning the facilities etc. and we pay about $15/hr. for it. You could hire that work out or you can do it yourself too for the $15/hr. You would require a car in any event.
