$27.69/hour + 12% in lieu of all benefits and vacation

Engineering Operations has an immediate opportunity for a skilled individual who has a passion for turf and horticulture. Related duties include: grass cutting with a variety of ride on and walk behind mowers; sports field & baseball diamond maintenance, cemetery maintenance and various duties in other departments as required.

  • You have a positive, energetic “can-do” approach to work!
  • Completion of Grade 12 (or equivalent) and some related experience in turf and/or horticulture.
  • It would be a bonus if you have formal education and/or training in a turf or horticulture related program and a valid Pesticide Applicators License!
  • Considerable knowledge and skill in the safe use and care of a variety of materials, hand tools and motorized equipment common to grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge in landscaping, golf course, sports field and ball diamond maintenance procedures and practices. Demonstrated experience in using large area mowers, tractors and backhoes is an asset.
  • Knowledge in general irrigation and drainage practices and principles.
  • Ability to follow the safety precautions required in the work.
  • Ability to effectively perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • You have the ability to maintain effective working relationships within a team environment.
  • You have the ability to work effectively and courteously with other City departments and a variety of external contacts.
  • You have the ability to provide exceptional customer service.
  • You have the physical aptitude to perform manual labour and to work in all weather conditions
  • Valid BC Drivers’ License and a clean driver’s abstract. Class 3 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement is considered an asset.
  • The successful candidate must be able to pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check.

The successful candidates will be available to work up to 40 hours per week (which may include weekends and shift work) for up to 10 months, however, work terms may be adjusted due to seasonal and operational requirements.
