Job Description


  • Reporting to the Manager, Employee Relations, the Labour Relations Professional will demonstrate leadership in the provision of labour/employee relations advice and counsel to HR professionals, management, and others.
  • This role will be accountable for conducting research, formulating solutions, providing interpretations on labour/employee relations issues.
  • It will also be accountable for dispute resolution and providing input into the development of policies and practices.
  • Candidates should have knowledge of labour and employment law policies and procedures as the successful candidate will be required to provide interpretations to these policies and provide guidance to internal clients.
  • With experience will gain a thorough knowledge and understanding as well as the ‘spirit & intent’ of the two BC Hydro collective agreements.
  • Under initial direction from senior level roles, manages medium impact/complex projects.
  • Conducts client needs assessments and is required to act as a key point of contact in regularly responding to queries.
  • Is required to analyze issues and offer possible solutions and make recommendations for resolution of issues.
  • Actively participates in collective bargaining.
  • Is accountable for assessing, understanding and executing short term plans.
  • Is required to conduct extensive research and provide input into strategic plans.
  • Assesses existing project plans and provides recommendations on changes.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with Union representatives and other internal and external parties.
  • Is required to influence the behavior of internal clients through subject matter knowledge and positive relationships.
  • Independently solves problems of a moderately complex nature.
  • Conducts extensive research, fact finding and may recommend modifications to policies and practices.
  • May provide input into operational decisions and provides input into strategic decisions such as bargaining strategy and the implementation of changes in employment law practice
  • As a qualified professional, is required to provide labour/employee relations, training, and formal coaching and functional leadership to internal clients and external parties.


  • University degree in business administration, human resources/industrial relations, law, behavioural sciences or other relevant discipline. 
  • Five (5) plus years of progressive experience within the field of Human Resources with specialization in Labour/Employee Relations. 
  • A legal background with experience in labour and/or employment law would be an asset. 
  • Candidates should have significant experience in some of the following Human Resources disciplines: Employee Relations, Labour/Industrial Relations, Business and Human Resources management, organization behaviour, conflict resolution, collective bargaining, and presentation skills.
