Victim Services Caseworker

The Community Services department has an opportunity for a Victim Services Caseworker on a part-time basis.  This is a police-based program that is situated at the Kelowna Regional Detachment, RCMP. 

The RCMP Victim Services Caseworker responds to police, community and self-initiated referrals to assist victims and witnesses of crime and trauma.  Our team offers crisis intervention, short-term support, practical assistance and community/program referrals for individuals with identified need.  This position also entails responding to RCMP call-out requests to assist police in supporting victims/witnesses in a wide range of incidents including sudden deaths, fatal/serious vehicle crashes, next-of-kin notifications (loss of life), robberies, domestic violence, physical assaults, etc.  As this program provides emergency support at all times, incumbent availability must be flexible as there is potential for short notice call outs.

The successful candidate will have a degree in a social service related field, minimum of six months’ experience working with victims of crime and trauma, as well as working knowledge of trauma, grief, the criminal justice system, social services, mental health, abuse issues, suicide, etc.  Strong interpersonal, good judgement, excellent communication, computer and organizational skills are essential.  The incumbent must have a valid BC Driver’s Licence with a safe driving record as well as access to a vehicle for use (should program vehicle be not available).  The applicant must qualify for and maintain an RCMP Security Clearance required for commencing employment in this RCMP work environment.  Short-listed applicants are encouraged to review Ministry of Justice policies and mandates for Victim Services.  Knowledge of PRIME and Justin computer programs is desirable.

This is a part-time position to commence immediately pending successful completion of RCMP Security Clearance.  We offer a salary of $33.74 – $37.49 per hour and a full range of benefits.
