Transportation/Public Space Recruiting Call (Vancouver, British Columbia (BC), Canada, V6A 4K6)

Requisition ID: 30229

Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Vancouver has a commitment to becoming a City of Reconciliation. Vancouver consistently ranks as one of the world’s most liveable cities and is working towards being the greenest city in the world. Named among Canada’s Top 100 Employers, BC’s Top Employers, and Canada’s Greenest Employers, the City of Vancouver seeks colleagues who can help shape and embody our core commitments to sustainability, decolonization, equity and outstanding quality of life for all residents.

Consider joining our committed team of staff and being part of an innovative, inclusive and rewarding workplace.

We’re looking for great transportation, public space, and engagement professionals to join our growing team in Engineering Services at the City of Vancouver.

The City of Vancouver is widely recognized as a world leader in transportation with over half of all our trips by sustainable modes.  This success is in a large part due to the excellent team of professionals who work at the City to plan, design, engage, promote and implement our policies and projects.

With the adoption of the City’s Climate Emergency Action Plan, our target of 2/3 of all trips by walk/bike/transit by 2030, and our goal to broadly change how we use our street space to prioritize people and communities, we’re building our team to help lead our work on projects across the spectrum of transportation and public space. This includes everything from transport pricing, transit improvement, active transportation, equity, transportation planning, demand management, signal design and operation, landscape design, public space planning and stewardship, and more.

We believe that mobility is an important part of people’s lives and should focus on serving people and communities. We believe that our work should benefit all communities – particularly historically marginalized communities that have not been well-served in the past. We believe that our street space is a public good that has the potential to unlock enormous opportunities for our residents and bring communities together. We believe in physically and psychologically safe street designs and having real conversations with people about how projects and polices will impact their lives.  We believe in the power of public space to bring communities together. We believe our work makes a different to people’s lives and to the planet. We believe in the power of diverse thinking that comes from different lived experiences.

We’re looking for engineers, planners, landscape architects, and engagement professionals. If you share our values, have strong skills, and you want to bring your energy to building a better Vancouver, we want to hear from you!

To chat about what we’re doing, about working in transportation and public space at the city, and where you might fit in, please ensure you submit your application! The deadline to apply is June 11, 2021.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

At the City of Vancouver, we are committed to recruiting a diverse workforce that represents the community we so proudly serve. Indigenous applicants, people of colour, all genders, LGBT2Q+ and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.  Accommodations will be provided upon request during the selection process. Learn more about our commitment to diversity and inclusion
