The City of Port Moody has an opportunity for a progressive and ambitious Transportation Engineer committed to excellence and professionalism to join our Infrastructure Engineering Services team.
The Transportation Engineer will be responsible for strategic planning and day to day management of the City’s transportation systems. The Transportation Engineer’s responsibilities include program management for implementation of the Master Transportation Plan (MTP), tracking progress towards and updating or adjusting the MTP, research and development of transportation and traffic related plans and policies, overseeing operations of the City’s traffic signals, highway use permitting, and undertaking and managing traffic and transportation related projects and studies. The City of Port Moody also declared a climate emergency in 2019 and this position is integral to leading and supporting progress towards Climate Action Plan goals and targets.
In addition, the Transportation Engineer represents the City at regional transportation committees, serves as Staff Liaison for the municipal Transportation Committee, and supervises related technical staff. Reporting to the Manager of Infrastructure Engineering Services, the Transportation Engineer has significant latitude in the application of departmental policy, following general guidelines, and professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, and a registered P. Eng. designation in BC, eligible for registration with APEGBC (EIT or limited license may be considered at reduced rate). Additional formal training in municipal engineering or other relevant area of study is an asset. A minimum of three years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience is required, with a focus in transportation or traffic engineering, as well as experience with interpreting professional reports, review of designs, analyzing complex problems, and identifying solutions. Also required is a strong ability to prepare and present reports to Council, the public and other audiences; a good understanding of the principles of project management and contract administration; and the ability to efficiently manage capital projects, supervise construction works, and manage budgets, within the context of applicable Acts, bylaws, regulations and policies, and while applying environmental best management practices. Experience supervising technical staff, strong leadership and team building qualities, and a commitment to customer service excellence round out our requirements.
