TRAFFIC SIGNAL TECHNICIAN II
Permanent Full Time Position
Street Operations in the Public Works Division is seeking a Traffic Signal Technician II at the journeyman level to perform specialized, electrical trades work requiring skills and abilities in the installation, repair and maintenance of municipal traffic signals and related traffic control appurtenances. This position will also provide professional input on the Capital Works Program, long term planning, research and development of new technologies and designs for new or upgraded installations of traffic signals and related devices.
Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent; Provincial Trades Qualification Certificate or certificate of apprenticeship in electrical trade; Certification as a Class “B” Electrical Field Safety Representative Designation; valid IMSA Level 2 accreditation; current Traffic Control Person Certificate; High Voltage Close Proximity Training Certification; ability to obtain annual Electrical Permit for construction and maintenance of all the Municipalities traffic signal assets; one year supervisory experience in a related operational work area; five years experience in traffic signal maintenance, operation and controller instrumentation; training and/or experience in computer-based design specifically relating to traffic control, programming and maintenance; a valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence with air brake endorsement and be physically fit to work in all weather conditions. A strong understanding of the regional transportation traffic signal network is also necessary.
