We are looking to recruit an auxiliary Traffic Assistant in our Engineering Department. The Traffic Assistant is a field and office technical and clerical position related to the investigation of traffic bylaw and safety-related complaints, collect field data related to traffic volumes, speed, vehicle classification, sight distance and other roadway features or multi-modal traffic.  The Traffic Assistant position reviews a variety of applications and responds to requests for information and services.  The successful incumbent in this position should be able to work independently and also assist and collaborate with other team members.  Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include the completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in traffic technology or an equivalent combination of training and experience. An incumbent must possess knowledge of Burnaby street layouts including the rules and regulations regarding movement of traffic.  The ideal candidate will also have work-related experience dealing courteously and effectively with other team members and the public. Strong computer skills and the ability to read plans as well as input data within related databases is required for this role.  We are looking for individuals with the experience and skill in the operation of traffic count equipment and conducting field investigation of roadway assets. Experience in engineering projects is considered an asset for this role, as well as experience with Hansen (Infor) work orders and service requests and SAP inventory control. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required.
