This is skilled plumbing work at journeyman level, performing skilled plumbing tasks in installing piping, fitting, tanks and valves in water systems and hot water systems including mains and branches; and maintaining and repairing plumbing, heating and sanitary storm facilities and performing pipe laying and caulking operations in laying and water mains. Other duties include installing, testing, maintaining and repairing natural gas lines, appliances, equipment and accessories in accordance with provincial safety codes, and inspecting and testing cross connection and back flow prevention systems, and installing, maintaining, and repairing pool chlorine systems. Maintains adequate stock of parts, materials and equipment in shop and requisitions same as required. The Trades 2 – Plumber may supervise and check the work of one or more less skilled subordinates engaged in plumbing repair, maintenance and installation tasks. Estimates materials required in the plumbing work as required. Performs related work as required.

Completion of grade 12 supplemented by the completion of a recognized Trade Certificate of Qualification plus considerable general experience at the Journeyman level; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade. Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade, including WorkSafeBC regulations, BC Plumbing Codes regulations and standards, and W.H.M.I.S.; of the City Plumbing regulations and standards. Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, rough drafts and to follow instructions; to assign and supervise the work of one or more subordinates engaged in less complex plumbing tasks; to maintain simple records, estimate materials required and requisition parts and materials as required. Skill in the use and care of tools, materials and equipment used in the plumbing trade.  Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required, along with a valid Certificate of Qualification – Plumber, British Columbia, Class B Level Gas Fitters License and AWWA Cross Connection Certificate.
