EXEMPT STAFF POSITION

REGULAR FULL-TIME

The District of Kitimat is seeking a qualified candidate interested in fulfilling the role of Systems & Network Administrator.

This position will perform hands on technical work and is responsible for carrying out all systems and network administration duties. This position will also act as a Generalist and assist the Information Technology Manager in other fields of IT as required. Candidates will have the ability to:

  • Install, maintain and troubleshoot IT hardware, software and electronic office equipment and systems
  • Maintain IT inventories
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot system and hardware problems
  • Plan for, install and monitor network infrastructure
  • Conduct tests and perform security and quality controls
  • Administer contracts for all computers and electronic office equipment
  • Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations
  • Provide technical advice, problem solve and train network users
  • Attend council meetings and provide technical assistance and recording services
  • May be required to obtain and maintain RCMP security clearance
  • Work as a team and show initiative to work independently
  • Work evenings and weekends as required

The successful candidate will have:

  • A diploma in computer science or related field, MCSA, MCSE, or equivalent experience required
  • Strong ability to analyze and troubleshoot
  • The ability to work as a team and show initiative to work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to translate technical information into user friendly information
  • Class 5/7N Drivers Licence
  • Two years of work experience in the following areas:
    • PKI certificate management
    • Printer and copier support and management
    • Active Directory
    • Windows application deployment
    • File share and NTFS management
    • Direct access or VPN, SQL, MS Exchange or Sharepoint
    • Office 365 deployment and support
    • Mobile device management
    • AV equipment support
    • PC repairs and upgrades
    • Hyper-V, VMware management experience (Nutanix AHV, Unitrends backup and tape library management an asset)

Technical certification in any of the following fields is considered an asset:

  • Cisco CCNA, CCNP, CCIE
  • CompTIA Network +
  • CompTIA Security +
  • SolarWinds Certified Professional
  • Juniper Networks Certified Enterprise Routing and Switching Expert
  • Palo Alto PCNSA (Entry Level) and PCNSE (Expert)
  • ONF Certified Software Defined Network Associate
  • Certified Wireless Network Administrator

Network related experience in any of the following areas are considered an asset:

  • Networks including WAN, SD-WAN, VLANS, Point-Point Wireless, VPNs
  • Windows Server DHCP, RADIUS, DNS required
  • Deploying Wi-Fi and captive portals
  • Planning, programming, installation, automation and documentation of Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches in network racks
  • Deploying and terminating CAT 6 and Fibre Optic cable
  • VoIP telephone networking
  • Network troubleshooting
