The Superintendent, Parks Operations is an exempt position with diverse duties which may include the coordination of design, construction and maintenance work for a variety of Parks land improvements, building projects and overseeing the parks maintenance program (forestry, horticulture, mowing, trails, etc.)  for the City. This role will be coordinating and preparing the provisional and annual operating budgets for the Parks Operations; consulting with the Finance Department in relation to asset accounting and preparing that data for SAP; overseeing, directing and providing leadership to employees. This position will represent the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department on various Committees and may involve the coordination of risk management concerns for the Parks Division and/or the management of the vehicle and equipment fleet for the Department. You will also be responsible for divisional reports, tender documents, project contracts, invoices, asset breakdown and procurement data for purchase orders. Other related work as required.

The completion of a program in construction management with the attainment of a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is desirable. You must have at least five years of progressive supervisory experience in a unionized setting, and experience within the municipal sector is an asset. Sound labour relations experience and working knowledge of operating within a disciplinary process is required, along with extensive experience in the supervision of Parks Maintenance activities and technical knowledge of Parks Design, Development, Maintenance and Operations.  The ability to communicate professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing is critical to this role. This role must be able work effectively and collaboratively with internal and external contacts, at a variety of levels across the organization. Computer skills are a requirement and SAP knowledge (or other ERP system) experience is an asset. Working experience of maintaining, preparing and managing significant budgets in electronic format is a must. You must be a proactive and strong leader with excellent problem solving skills, organizational skills and the ability to work independently. Experience with staff development and team management is required, as well as a
Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
