This is specialized recreation and cultural work involving the development, coordination and support of a variety of public special events and festivals for the City of Burnaby. The work includes checking event feasibility and, in conjunction with input from various internal and external sources, planning, developing, implementing and coordinating special projects, events and festivals. In addition, the incumbent solicits sponsorships; prepares grant funding proposals; monitors event budgets; directs the work of part-time and auxiliary staff, prepares evaluations and maintains a variety of reports, records and correspondence. Coordinates input and involvement of various departments and co-sponsors and appropriate stakeholders; prepares detailed plans including such things as promotional needs and time frames, roles for various participants, site communications, traffic control, and public safety requirements; schedules various facets of event; completes contracts and agreements with entertainers, contractors and suppliers. Coordinates the implementation of the event and acts as the event day coordinator to ensure smooth operations; provides general site supervision as required; ensures that required standards of behaviours and safety are maintained on the site; participates in operational activities, as required. Participates in the development of promotional materials; drafts speeches and speaking notes as required; liaises with the media or works with City staff to arrange publicity for events and facilitates interviews; deals with complaints. Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of a post-secondary diploma in recreation and/or culture administration, arts or related field, plus sound related experience preferably including some supervisory experience and experience working with community events or festivals; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, practices and techniques related to the work performed; of the interests and functions of community groups and agencies and of the available community and internal resources and of the applicable policies, regulations and rules governing the work. Ability  to  establish  and  maintain  effective  working  relationships  with  internal  and external contacts; to recruit, orient, train, and direct the work of part-time staff and volunteers assisting with events; and to use related software programs effectively. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.

This is a tempoary full time opportunity to July 30, 2021.
