Job Description:The Club: Founded in 1911 when Vancouver was just 25 years old, Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club traces its history back to the earliest days of golf on the West Coast. First located on Canadian Pacific Railway lands, the Club moved in 1960 to the ancestral site of the Musqueam First Nation’s winter village. Shaughnessy has served as the proud host of many prestigious events and notable figures in golf and tennis over these 100+ years. Today’s Club features an award-winning clubhouse, highly-ranked and competitive golf course, indoor and outdoor tennis, fitness and a golf performance centre. We are committed to providing the Shaughnessy Experience through the use of our core values, C.A.R.E.: Community Accountability Respect Excellence The Position: Our Club is in need of a full-time Sous Chef to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Executive Chef, while working closely with the Club’s other Sous Chef, this important position is responsible for continuing a long-standing tradition of excellence in the culinary experience for the Club. The Sous Chef assists in leading a team of over twenty staff. Who You Are: Passionate about practicing and learning different cooking methods, with relevant knowledge of current local and international culinary trends Management of food/labour costs and inventories, based on forecasted business volume Committed to innovating and pushing the boundaries by offering new and exciting culinary experiences to the membership Effective communicator with team members and staff across all departments Ability to handle member complaints tactfully and develop positive relationships amongst the kitchen team, amongst staff members, and with the membership Exceptional leader who mentors kitchen staff and aids them in developing their skillset Highly emotionally intelligent – able to manage calmly and effectively under pressure, communicating in a respectful and constructive manner Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; experience with JONAS considered an asset Certified in Foodsafe Level II Has obtained Red Seal, a Diploma in Culinary Arts, or similar education A minimum of seven (7) years of culinary experience, with a minimum of two (2) years experience in a similar role Experience in a high-volume private/non-profit club environment is considered an asset Legally entitled to work in Canada Able to work flexible hours including mornings, days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays Responsibilities: Work alongside the Director of Food & Beverage and Executive Chef to maintain the high-level of quality and consistency that our members have grown to expect Manage the day-to-day culinary operations through hands-on involvement Effectively aid in the management of labour and food costs to budget Model, monitor, and manage proper Foodsafe protocols in the kitchen Oversee and manage the proper preventative care and regular service agreements, warranties and cleaning of all equipment Inspire creativity and excellence amongst the kitchen team, reinforced by setting a strong example Assist in the recruitment, management and coaching of kitchen team members to achieve the objectives set by the Executive Chef Compensation and Benefits: Competitive salary, commensurate with experience and qualifications Health Benefits Plan following probationary period Group Savings Benefit Program following probationary period – RSP and TFSA options available.
