Job Description:We are looking to hire a smart and dynamic individual to be our new Shop Foreman. Possible Equity opportunity for the right person. Acting as the Senior Technician and decision maker, the Shop Foreman is responsible for the effective supervision of service department staff to ensure that quality standards, productivity requirements, and serviceability requirements are met. Responsibilities will include the training of staff members in service methods, safety, policies, and procedures, as well as the identification and correction of potential work problems and health and safety issues. The Shop Foreman will prepare a range of reports and hold responsibilities for the effective budgeting in their area. Through the effective management of targets, goals and service efficiencies, the Shop Foreman will ensure the ongoing success of the shop, and the overall business requirements. The Shop Foreman will have the ability to assist with troubleshooting major and minor mechanical problems, as well as have the ability to make go/no-go decisions on repairs. This position would be responsible for coordinating Day / Night shifts, ensuring clear communication and day objectives. Job Duties • Supervise the activities of maintenance shop supervisors and workers • Maintain and distribute up-to-date service requirement information • Instruct subordinates on service best practices, assist with trouble shooting, diagnose defects in heavy duty equipment. • Diagnose any faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair that is required. • Check all heavy equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions. • Requisition materials and supplies. • Ensure completion of shop maintenance and repair work according to schedule • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting. • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service. • Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required. • Perform incidental welding operations on equipment. • Accurate completion of work orders and time cards. • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation. • Other mechanical repair work as required. Must be a driven and motivated leader, with the ability to promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and performance. A creative and innovative thinker, with the understanding of the gravity in making business decisions and driving performance from the shop level. Excellent verbal and written communicator, with an elevated level of attention to detail and professionalism. Requirements • Must hold a Journeyman’s certificate, or have Red Seal. • Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training. • 8 years’ experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic. • Possess a valid driver’s license. • Minimum of 3 years’ supervisory experience with demonstrated motivating, training, appraising and general supervisory skills. Work Conditions • 24/7 availability may be required. • Physical ability to lift up to 100lb. • Travel to off-site locations may be required. • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc. • Overtime as required. • Hazards associated with the trade. • Work both indoors and outdoors. • May be exposed to construction sites.
