Our Engineering Planning and Design group has a 12-month temporary full time opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer to manage and conduct professional engineering work in the design, construction and maintenance of complex municipal infrastructure. A background in municipal drainage infrastructure and structural engineering will be an asset.
While the ability to work independently is important, excellent interpersonal skills are critical in order to work well with project stakeholders as you carry out a myriad of tasks, some of which include: delivering major capital projects and the capital construction program on schedule and within budget, supervising staff, consultants and contractors, managing our long-term infrastructure renewal program, and issuing/overseeing construction and professional engineering contracts. This position also represents the District’s public infrastructure interests related to large area development from rezoning to construction phases, as well as large scale senior government projects.
To be successful, you must exemplify our values including a passion to serve, acting with integrity and teamwork. In addition, you must have the ability to: make complex technical computations and estimates and to analyze engineering data and statistics; interpret and prepare engineering plans and specifications; write and present clear, concise and complete reports on technical engineering problems; act as project manager and to ensure adherence to plans and specifications; effectively negotiate complex issues with construction contractors and professional consultants in the best interest of the District and taxpayers; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
The successful candidate will have a Degree in Civil Engineering, a Professional Engineer designation in B.C. (or are eligible for registration) plus a minimum of seven years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and a significant amount of experience in a related field, along with a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
