The Opportunity:
Our Engineering Department has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer to manage and conduct professional engineering work in the design and construction section.  Reporting to the Director of Engineering this position is accountable for engineering and project management work and may be involved in work relating to technology evaluation, facilities planning, design and construction, operations and maintenance or environmental assessments.  Applies principles and practices of profession to ensure results are achieved in a sound and practical manner. Draws upon a range of engineering, design experience and project management skills to establish plans and complete projects based on departmental priorities and/or corporate initiatives.  Participates in short and long range planning and makes independent decisions on work methods and procedures.  Peer reviews the work of colleagues; provides guidance to more junior staff; and may supervise other engineers or technical staff.
Strong integrity and teamwork is critical to this position along with the ability to make complex technical computations and estimates to analyze engineering date and statistics; interpret and prepare engineering plans and specifications; write and present clear, concise and complete reports.  As the Project Manager ensure adherence to plans and specifications, effectively negotiate complex issues and construction contractors and professionals consultants in the best interest of the City.
While the ability to work independently is important, excellent interpersonal skills are critical in order to work well with project stakeholders as you carry out a myriad of tasks.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor of Applied Science degree in a relevant engineering discipline with 4-6 years recent related experience following professional registration; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Membership or eligibility for immediate membership as a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC). Previous experience in municipal government is an asset and preferred.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license.
