Our Parks, Recreation and Culture department is seeking two energetic, hard-working individuals with excellent work ethic for seasonal work from April 2021 to the end of August 2021.

Seasonal labourers assist in parks and cemeteries operations and maintenance including: grounds and building maintenance; gardening; pruning; fence repair; lawn maintenance; brushing; gravesite preparation; playground maintenance, trail maintenance and construction, field and irrigation system installation and maintenance; minor repairs and construction and related tasks.

You must possess the ability to work well independently and in a team setting, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You must be skilled in the proper and safe operation of a variety of hand and power tools, and equipment and machinery common to general construction and maintenance work. You must possess a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license with a clean driving record and undergo a Police Information Check (Criminal Record Check).

You must enjoy working outdoors and have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination required to perform heavy manual labour in all types of weather.

As the ideal candidate, you will have recent experience in general construction and maintenance work including parks operation and maintenance tasks and you will be working towards a certificate in parks maintenance or a horticulture education program, or possess other relevant post-secondary education. You will have knowledge of and experience with industry-relevant equipment, tools and applicable safety and health standards.

The hourly rate for this seasonal position is $29.84 plus 12.4% in lieu of all benefits. The shifts are Sunday to Wednesday and Friday to Monday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm (four, nine-hour shifts).
