Our Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Services Department are looking for Outdoor Hiking & Snowshoeing Recreation Instructors.  Outdoor Recreation Instructors ensure participants learn hiking and snowshoeing skills in a safe and enjoyable environment; and provide interpretation of the surrounding areas.

The hiking/snowshoeing program operates out of various locations in the Greater Vancouver area.  Programs comprise group and private lessons, include hiking, snowshoeing, orienteering instruction, as well as day and evening guided hikes and snowshoeing outings for groups of children, youth and adult participants, incorporating skills based on the Overnight Guide Certification Program.

Hours of work per week are dependent on the program schedule and registration levels.  This is a casual position that offers flexible hours year round.  The successful candidate must be available to work varied days and times: weekday evenings between 5:00 PM and 9:00PM as well as weekends between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM.

Extensive outdoor experience is required, as well as strong hiking, snowshoeing and orienteering skills and previous guiding experience with a variety of ages.  A background in customer service and leading recreation programs is preferred, and Association of Canadian Mountain Guides or Field Leader training and certification are considered assets.
Qualifications include:

  • Valid Wilderness First Aid 20+ hour Certification or equivalent.
  • Valid CPR Level C certification
  • Class 4 BC Driver’s License
