Recreation Attendant l – Village of Midway (Midway, BC)

Full Time

Under the direction of the Parks Arena Manager (Parks & Facilities), or his/her delegate, maintains the ice surface, maintains and cleans parks, cemetery facilities, recreation facilities and operates related equipment.

Examples of Work Performs:

  1. Supervise public use of recreation facility;
  2. Make ice surface and maintain ice including flooding, operating ice conditioning machines, Ice painting etc.;
  3. Perform parks and facilities maintenance including janitorial and minor repairs;
  4. Set up and take down for various activities held in the recreation facilities;
  5. Maintain flower beds, trees, shrubs, trails, turf areas, irrigation systems, playgrounds, parks and playing fields ,including, but not limited to, weeding, mowing grass, litter pickup, pruning, fertilizing etc., as required;
  6. Performs heavy manual duties, including, but not limited to, snow removal, gardening, moving tables, chairs, etc.;
  7. Identify hazards and perform corrective measures, and/or report hazards to supervisor;
  8. Operate equipment including, but not limited to, ice making, janitorial, parks and building maintenance;
  9. Enforce all rules and regulations regarding public health and safety;
  10. Ensure buildings and facilities are vacant and secure at the end of day;
  11. Assist in supervision and training of support staff, and assist with scheduling when necessary;
  12. Answer and act on public enquires and complaints, as required;
  13. Maintain records and information, as required;
  14. Shift work is required, including weekends;
  15. Other related duties, as required.

Training and Experience:

  1. Secondary school graduation;
  2. Minimum of two years’ related experience in ice making, janitorial and facilities maintenance;
  3. BC Refrigeration Operator’s Certificate or Ice Facility Operator Certificate with willingness to obtain BC Refrigeration Operator’s Certificate;
  4. Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment safely and efficiently;
  5. Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment safely and efficiently;
  6. Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labour;
  7. Supervisory experience;
  8. Good working knowledge of WorkSafe BC Regulations, as relates to the work involved;
  9. First Aid training;
  10. Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments;
  11. Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public;
  12. Good written and oral communication skills;
  13. Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence;
  14. WHMIS.

Preferred applicants will have proven experience in ice arena operations and a good working knowledge of ice making, ice maintenance and ammonia refrigeration systems.

Must be willing obtain a R.C.M.P. criminal record check, including Vulnerable Sector Check issued within the past 6 months, be highly skilled in public relations, and must have the ability to work shifts, including evenings and weekends.
