This is specialized clerical work of a technical legal nature which involves reading instance files to ensure proper investigational procedures have been followed and evidentiary requirements met. An incumbent reads instance files for investigational content and quality; ensures the completeness, currency and validity of coding; records and authorizes the removal and addition of entries; checks court dispositions for completion and accuracy; identifies deficiencies; recommends further investigational action when required; obtains and analyzes relevant data and prepares reports on investigational concerns and related legislative matters; ensures the completeness, currency and validity of statistical coding; authorizes the removal and addition of entries; maintains diary-dates; provides direction to members, investigators and other staff to ensure that all investigative actions comply with prescribed policies and procedures; responds to a variety of inquiries, determining entitlement to information and providing the same in compliance with a variety of agreements and disclosure legislation under various Acts. Performs other related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of the twelfth grade, including or supplemented by commercial courses, plus considerable related experience in a police environment or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of investigational procedures and evidentiary requirements in conducting police investigations and of the Criminal Code of Canada and other applicable Federal and Provincial statutes enforced by the R.C.M.P; of the rules, regulations, policies and procedures applicable to maintaining R.C.M.P. files and records; of clerical and recordkeeping methods and procedures. Ability to read instance files for investigational content and quality, to ensure that all proper investigational procedures and evidentiary requirements are met, and that all investigations are complete; to ensure the completeness, currency and validity of statistical coding and operational files and records; to provide direction to members, investigators and other staff to ensure that all investigative actions comply with prescribed policies and procedures; to prepare and maintain records and reports related to the work. An Enhanced RCMP Security Clearance must be obtained and maintained.
