This is public relations, technical and planning work at the semi-professional level. The incumbent is responsible for the in-depth analysis of proposals of a specific type such as rezoning servicing applications, subdivisions, strata title applications or road closure applications and the preparation of reports and correspondence for a superior. An incumbent ensures that all design and development guidelines and all prerequisites for approval are fully met by the developer as evidenced by submission of suitable development plans, requisite monies and related documents. An incumbent exercises considerable independent judgement and action in processing routine or straightforward applications and proposals. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of three years university training in architecture including or supplemented by courses in planning and some related experience in a planning office, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Thorough knowledge of the pertinent provisions of the applicable By-laws, Acts and regulations and of the Municipality’s planning goals and objectives as they relate to the work performed; of the departmental policies, practices and procedures governing the work performed. Sound knowledge of the principles, procedures and objectives of urban planning as they relate to subdivision and rezoning matters. Sound knowledge of the responsibilities and procedures of other internal and external departments and agencies involved in the processing of subdivision, rezoning and strata title applications. Ability to examine applications and to interpret, explain and apply the pertinent provisions of the applicable By-laws, Acts and regulations as well as the Municipality’s planning goals and objectives, and to provide assistance and advice to various contacts, and when appropriate, suggest improvements and alternative proposals; to effectively communicate orally and to prepare concise written reports and to read and interpret plans and drawings. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
