Bring your passion, training and experience to this exciting opportunity. As one of the fastest growing communities in British Columbia we are looking for highly motivated and committed urban planning professional to join the City’s growing Planning and Development department.

As part of the Community Planning team, you will be part of the Division leadership group and will supervise a team preparing major long-range community planning projects.

The Planner 3 will exercise considerable independent judgement in leading, developing, and completing programs and projects.  This position will also develop and implement politically sensitive public consultation processes that inform planning policies. Your proven professional expertise in community planning and problem-solving will enable you to work on community planning processes of varying levels of complexity.

Ideally you have 5-7 years’ progressive professional experience in the field, possess University degree in an appropriate discipline, and have a graduate degree in Community and Regional Planning.  Proven policy development experience in these fields will be considered an asset:

  •  Long-range urban planning project management;
  • Preparation of OCPs, area and neighbourhood plans for urban and ‘greenfield’ contexts;
  • Public engagement and stakeholder consultation;
  • Strong public presentation skills;
  • Infill housing policy preparation and implementation;
  • Heritage planning policy development;
  • Urban design policy and practice;
  • Staff supervision and team management.

Membership or eligibility for membership in a professional association (e.g. Planning Institute of British Columbia; Canadian Institute of Planners) is preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  A valid British Columbia Driver’s License is required.

A CUPE hourly rate of: $54.07 – $64.07 (2020 rates), a comprehensive benefits package, and an earned day off program is being offered.
