The Job!
Reporting to the Operations Manager (Parks & Roads), you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of both the Parks and Roads departments. You will plan, develop, schedule and implement comprehensive work programs in support of the community’s road, pedestrian, and bicycle networks, and municipal parks, sports fields, green spaces, urban forestry and cemeteries. In addition, you will supervise and provide leadership to the staff in both departments. Areas of responsibility include Parks and Roads operations and maintenance, safety, minor capital works construction projects and emergency preparedness.

This position calls for a results oriented professional with exceptional leadership, teambuilding, communication, and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will be committed to building and fostering cooperative and collaborative relationships within the City. Proven ability to manage projects related to the construction, operation and maintenance of parks and/or roads infrastructure in a related environment is also essential.

In addition, the ideal candidate will have:

  • A post-secondary diploma from a recognized educational institution in Civil Engineering, Parks Planning, Management or Administration or a related field.
  • Five (5) years recent, progressive, well rounded experience in overseeing roads and/or parks operations, including experience in the planning, construction and maintenance of roads and/or parks infrastructure.
  • Three (3) years recent progressive supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Three (3) years recent experience in the civil construction field in the role of directing field work and crews, and/or field inspection (QA/QC).
  • Supervisory/Leadership training
  • Project management experience and/or certification.
  • A valid BC driver’s licence.
