Mechanical Designer

International Quest Engineering Ltd. is an established engineering company in Prince George, B.C. specializing in structural and mechanical engineering for the Wood Products, Mining and Energy Industries. We are currently looking for a motivated professional wanting a rewarding career as a mechanical designer.

Job Description
The successful candidate will have experience in the materials handling industry. They will be responsible for undertaking the design, completing the necessary drafting and details to complete the project. This will include the sizing and selection of mechanical components and coordinating the necessary design and detail requirements with the lead designer/engineer.

Additional functions may include field measuring, field inspections and assisting with onsite coordination and design. The candidate must have a Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma or greater, have a minimum of 5 to 8 years of practical experience relating to the wood products, mining, or material handling industry.

Responsibilities:
 Create technical drawings, assisting with plant layouts and flow development, schematics, solid models, FEA studies and reports (in 2D and 3D)
 Confer with engineers and other personnel to provide technical information and effective design ideas
 Research, develop and check technical specifications used in the design process
 Complete field measuring and design confirmation
 Complete work in an efficient and timely manner
 Provide feedback to design engineers
 Overseeing junior designers / draftspersons

Qualifications:
 Technical diploma or greater relevant discipline
 A minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in the relevant technical field
 Significant experience in materials handling
 Proficient with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Word and Excel skills
 Excellent structural and mechanical aptitude and knowledge
 Works precisely and pays close attention to details and drives for excellence
 Ability to work in a team environment with engineers and other technical support staff
 Ability to interpret and evaluate data provided by the engineer
 Excellent problem solving skills
 Valid driver’s license
 Remote work is an option
