The Opportunity
Our Council and staff care a lot about this Town and are constantly working to provide quality reliable infrastructure to serve current and future generations of Ladysmith residents. Case and point, in the last several years we’ve commissioned state of the art wastewater treatment and water treatment facilities. The Town of Ladysmith is seeking a permanent full-time Manager of Operations to lead our infrastructure services team.

The Location.
Nestled on the eastern shores of spectacular Vancouver Island the Town of Ladysmith has a population of approximately 9,000 people, provides an inviting small town atmosphere and yet, is only a short commute to all the amenities of a major urban centre. Residents enjoy excellent community and recreational facilities and year-round opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.

The Position
You’ll get to provide leadership to a team of very skilled and dedicated staff who truly take pride in their work and the community.

To add icing on the cake it’s also a diverse and exciting role – one day you may be tasked with performing complex and varied project management work, the next you’ll be providing guidance to staff and contractors on technical issues or resolving emergent problems. Other accountabilities will require you to play an integral role in the management, planning and coordination of major infrastructure services projects, manage and provide leadership regarding contract and vendor requirements related to infrastructure service projects, and work closely with the Director of Infrastructure Services to determine overall core service priorities.

The Requirements
To ensure success in the role you’ll hold an undergraduate degree relevant to local government, operations management, or public works, and a minimum of five (5) years’ progressive related experience in a unionized municipal, provincial, or similar setting, leading day-to-day operations of utilities, road design and maintenance, and engineering.

In addition, management experience including the leadership of multiple diverse teams, budgeting, costing and asset management, as well as the provision of detailed technical reports, and considerable knowledge of computer applications related to office, engineering design, and infrastructure modeling is required.
