The City of Abbotsford has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Building Inspections to join our Planning and Development Services team. Reporting to the Director, Building Permits & Licences, the Manager, Building Inspections will be responsible for managing a division of Inspectors for the administration of inspection services of issued building permits, plumbing permits, demo permits and sign permits for the City in accordance with applicable safety codes, regulations and bylaws.
In this key role, you will provide leadership to a team of Inspectors focused on approving new construction buildings for final occupancy or use. You will plan, direct, organize, and supervise the work of individual employees and work with clients to find solutions to move projects to completion. The incumbent will assist designers, developers, contractors, property owners and tenants on the regulatory process. You will provide expert advice on the Building Code and develop processes and policies in keeping with appropriate risk management principles for municipal involvement in the construction process of all buildings. This role requires a highly efficient, with great attention to detail, self-starter who values a team environment and can manage a busy and interesting workload while providing excellent customer service.
As the ideal candidate you have:
- Diploma or Degree in Building Technology or Red Seal trade certificate in a construction trade
- Registered Building Official (RBO) from the Building Official’s Association of BC (BOABC)
- 5 years of progressively related experience in regulatory inspection and/or plan review experience for all types of buildings – Part 9 and Part 3
- 1-3 years’ experience leading a team or managing people
- Superior knowledge of the building code
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
