For the arts and culture enthusiasts, there is the iconic Calvin Kruk Centre for the Arts and the Dawson Creek Art Gallery. The South Peace Community Multiplex houses three incredible facilities: The Encana Events Centre which has hosted a multitude of world-class events; the Lakota Agriplex, an impressive equestrian centre; and the Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre that has an 8- lane lap pool, a leisure pool, sauna, steam room, hot tub and even a climbing wall. The City boasts two ice Arenas, a Curling Rink, numerous outdoor walking trails and multiple sports fields. For the outdoor buffs there are the quadding, snowmobiling, boating, skiing, hiking, fishing and golfing opportunities. Dawson Creek has great public and private schools, a top-notch college, and a local hospital with transportation services for special medical needs. With an airport three minutes from downtown, you can find daily flights to Vancouver if you ever feel the need to get away. Nevertheless, why would you when you are enjoying our crisp, sunny winters (winter precipitation totals around 25 mm/month) or our almost unlimited daily summer sunshine of up to 17.5 hours.

The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for a permanent full-time Aquatics Lifeguard/Instructor II position(s). Shifts may vary based on operational requirements. Under the general supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator or designate, a Lifeguard/Instructor II performs lifeguarding functions and provides instruction in a number of aquatic programs and skills at the Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre as well as minor maintenance.

The successful applicant must demonstrate ability and possess the following current qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option);
  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification;
  • Lifesaving Instructor certification;
  • Pool Operators Level 1 certification;
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1;
  • Fitness Instructor certification from a recognized organization;
  • Standard First Aid, CPR “C”; and
  • 1000 hours of experience as a Lifeguard/Instructor.

The successful applicant will be required to complete and submit a Security/Reliability Clearance and Criminal Record Search, the results of which must be satisfactory to the City. Along with a demonstrated teaching and leadership ability, the successful applicant will have the ability to perform all duties in a safe manner and to maintain harmonious relationships with all members of the public and other staff members. Physical agility, the ability to complete duties requiring physical effort and a proven ability to provide excellent service to the public are required.
