This is specialized and complex clerical work on an auxiliary basis in the Legal Department producing and processing legal documentation of moderate complexity related to a variety of land and development transactions, municipal contracts and litigation matters. An incumbent of this class prepares, reviews, registers and distributes a variety of legal documents of moderate complexity required in the rezoning, subdivision, and conveyancing of land for the City and other purposes; processes and tracks payments, invoices and legal fees for litigation expenses, claims, settlements, external counsel, expert witnesses and other related expenses. Prepares routine bylaws and bylaw amendments according to precedent or as directed; searches and selects formats, terminology and clauses for drafting bylaws and bylaw amendments. Performs related work as required
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 and considerable knowledge of procedures, forms, documents and legal terminology and requirements under the Local Government Act, Community Charter, Land Title Act, Strata Property Act, Civil Resolution Tribunal, Local Government Bylaw Notice Enforcement Act, Small Claims Rules, BC Supreme Court Civil Rules and Court of Appeal Rules and other relevant legislation. Considerable knowledge of myLTSA (i.e. Land Title and Survey Authority electronic services), BCOnLine (i.e. Corporate Registry and Court Services Online) and legal research resources. Ability to prepare, review and process a variety of legal and other documents related to municipal contracts, land and development transactions and litigation matters; interpret land titles, subdivision plans and other survey plans and establish effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. A Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate is required.
