Landscape Horticulturist (Trades II – Gardener)

You will undertake a variety of horticulture tasks and landscape maintenance, e.g. cultivation, propagation, planting and maintenance including mowing, weeding, pruning, raking, maintaining playgrounds and bedding, mulching, leading the ice and snow removal team and operating snow plow equipment. You have a thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, material, tools and equipment used in these operations; the ability to perform a variety of skilled horticultural tasks including pruning and spraying; have considerable knowledge in the maintenance of a variety of plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, lawns, and related recreation areas; the ability to assign and to work alongside with the helper; and the ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records related to the work.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will have related journeyman experience and/or apprenticeship in Landscape Horticulture or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preference will be given to those awarded a Pesticide Applicator Certification, Journeyman Certificate in Horticulture OR equivalent diploma or certificate.
A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license. Considerable independence of judgment and action is exercised in the performance of assigned duties
All employees will be available to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position.
HOURS OF WORK:
This is a 37.5 hour per week position involving shift work, including working evenings, nights and weekends.
$38.89 per hour (2019 rates).
