Responsibilities JOB SUMMARY The IT Infrastructure Analyst is responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of on- and off-premise data centre infrastructure, including servers, storage, electronic messaging, virtualization, cloud-based services, remote systems hosting, infrastructure process automation, data backup and archival systems and processes, systems management software, and related products. Provides technical support and maximizes operational efficiency for data center infrastructure. Performs the role of technical lead for data centre infrastructure projects. Monitors and maintains data centre infrastructure performance and capacity. Coordinates Change Management for the infrastructure and supporting applications. Provides resolution support for all escalated data centre infrastructure related operational issues and service requests. Provides expertise and assistance to BTS staff concerning data centre infrastructure requirements. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provides technical support and maximizes operational efficiency for data center infrastructure by: • liaising with clients at all levels to understand data centre related needs and challenges; • designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting data centre service automation; • designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting data centre customer self-service features and functions; • recommending data centre infrastructure modifications and upgrades to ensure availability and maximize operational efficiency; • designing and implementing technologies and processes to facilitate and enhance disaster recovery capabilities; perform testing and validation of process effectiveness on a periodic basis. 2. Performs the role of technical lead for data centre infrastructure projects by: • designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting all Data Centre infrastructure; • assessing impacts of new releases on data centre infrastructure and liaising with BTS staff; developing high level designs; developing detailed design configuration; • recommending infrastructure modifications, testing, scheduling outages and implementing upgrades; • providing support on initial implementation by testing validity of procedures for new products and providing cross-training and assistance to peers; • preparing summary reports and maintaining statistics and systems documentation for new data centre infrastructure deployments; • developing data centre infrastructure plans and configurations to meet application and system requirements; conducting pilot projects as required; • researching and recommending data centre infrastructure hardware, software, and peripherals. 3. Monitors and maintains data centre infrastructure performance and capacity by: • liaising with clients and BTS staff to monitor day-to-day data centre infrastructure requirements; • monitoring systems utilization, availability and performance; identifying trends and forecasting capacity, reporting on data centre infrastructure statistics and health; • installing and maintaining security related software, systems, and processes (i.e host-based firewalls, system access control, security certificates, messaging security platforms); identifying security violations, performing remedial actions; maintaining data centre infrastructure in a state of good repair. Evaluate and deploy system software and firmware upgrades as required to maintain performance, stability and security; • defining, installing and maintaining data backup and archival systems, services, and procedures • creating, maintaining and updating data centre infrastructure documentation to ensure it accurately reflects current state; • developing and maintaining data centre infrastructure inventories and configuration repositories. 4. Coordinates Change Management for the infrastructure and supporting applications by: • processing requests for new or revised installations and clarifying requirements with client or project managers; • assessing impacts and risks; confirming available data centre service capacities and capabilities; • following and supporting the process for moving change requests from inception to implementation in production environment, including documentation of the change, communicating with affected parties and stakeholders, and executing change implementation as per BTS procedures. 5. Provides resolution support for all escalated data centre infrastructure related operational issues and service requests by: • retrieving service tickets from Service Management tool and handling incidents and service requests; • investigating, diagnosing, testing and resolving problems and implementing solutions; • consulting with vendors, communication carriers and industry peers; • define, document and maintain currency of departmental support processes; participating in development of departmental operational procedures, policies and governance. 6. Provides expertise and assistance to BTS staff concerning data centre infrastructure requirements by: • maintaining technical currency by: researching market trends on technological advances and industry standards, researching solutions to issues and technical challenges, researching functionality, specifications and capabilities of current and planned data centre infrastructure; • providing formal and informal training to BTS staff concerning functionality of technology utilized for data centre infrastructure; • ensuring knowledge is transferred to peer group through documentation and demonstrations. 7. Performs related duties as assigned, such being items of a minor nature that do not affect the value of the job. Qualifications EDUCATION Requires a diploma in computer science or related discipline from a recognized institute of technology, specializing in data centre infrastructure. EXPERIENCE Requires 3.5 years previous experience in an information systems environment involving the data center infrastructure design and analysis, troubleshooting and complex project implementation at a senior level in a large enterprise. A further period of six (6) months on the job is required to become thoroughly familiar with the enterprise architecture plan, IS policies and standards and its specific infrastructure components. Other Information: Regular/Temporary Temporary (12 months) Work Schedule 37.5 hours per week. This assignment is full-time temporary for 12 months. Rate of Pay Salary starting at $7,044 per month Total Compensation Package The Total Compensation Package includes Extended Health, Transit Pass and enrollment in the Public Service Pension Plan upon eligibility.
