The Role of Ironworker
The role of Ironworker is a critical position with Glenform Canada. The Ironworker is responsible for working with the Form Work Managers, Senior Managers and Form Work Construction Workers with the planning, design and implementation of Glenform Canada’s construction projects – using Glenform Canada’s bespoke system of Form Work on projects in Vancouver, British Columbia, and across Canada as may be needed.
The prime responsibility of the Ironworker is as follows:
• Work with Form Work Managers and Senior Managers, and other members of the construction teams to read blueprints and specifications to lay out work for the construction to take place.
• Work with members of the construction team to unload and position steel unites (ensuring that safety is first and foremost at all times), so that each piece can be hoisted as needed.
• Work with members of the construction team to erect / install scaffolding, hoisting equipment and rigging.
• Work with members of the construction team and management to signal crane operators / position steel unites according to plans, specifications and blueprints.
• Work with members of the construction team to erect structural / architectural precast concrete components for buildings.
• Assemble / erect prefabricated metal structures – and to position and secure steel pars / metal mesh in concrete forms to reinforce concrete structures.
o This will include the installation of ornamental and other structural metal work, including curtain walls, metal stairways and power doors.
• Work with management to examine structures and equipment for deterioration, defects or non-compliance with specifications.
o This may lead to the dismantling of structures and equipment.
Requirements
• A demonstrated ability to lead.
• An ability to work through and resolve complex problems.
• The ability to meet, deal with and understand the underlying mandate of Glenform Canada’s Form Work Managers and Senior Managers insofar as how they carry out projects in accordance with industry standards.
• At least one (1) year of experience successfully carrying out the following duties and responsibilities:
o Reading blueprints and specifications to lay out work for the construction to take place.
o Unloading and and positioning steel unites (so that each piece can be hoisted as needed.
o Erecting / installing scaffolding, hoisting equipment and rigging.
o Signaling crane operators / positioning steel unites according to plans, specifications and blueprints.
o Erecting structural / architectural precast concrete components for buildings.
o Assembling / erecting prefabricated metal structures.
o The installation of ornamental and other structural metal work, including curtain walls, metal stairways and power doors.
o Examining structures and equipment for deterioration, defects or non-compliance with specifications / dismantling structures and equipment.
