We are seeking auxiliary Information Officers. The successful candidates(s) will be part of our front line team working at our front counters at the Main Detachment in Maple Ridge and the Pitt Meadows Community Police Office. This position operates PRIME, CPIC and other related RCMP computer applications to retrieve and record information; provides information and assistance to the public, handles complaints and enquiries at the front counters; explains rules, regulations and procedures within prescribed limits; provides civilian fingerprinting services; processes Police Information Checks.
Applicants must have completed Grade 12 supplemented by 6 months of police related training and have a minimum of 2 years operational policing experience including front line customer service.
Attainment and maintenance of RCMP reliability/security clearance and Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Special Provincial Constable designation for document service is required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of the Grade 12 grade including or supplemented by commercial courses and typing or word processing courses and CPIC, PRIME and JUSTIN operator’s courses plus sound related experience, preferably in an R.C.M.P. detachment OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the policies, procedures, rules and regulations applicable to the work performed.
Sound knowledge of firearm identification.
Sound knowledge of modern office methods and procedures, record keeping and of computer operation as it relates to the work.
Working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, Provincial Statutes and Municipal Bylaws as they apply to the work performed.
Working knowledge of the roles and services provided by community agencies.
Ability to deal effectively with the public, internal staff and external agencies and to apply sound judgement in providing assistance and explaining specific rules, regulations and procedures.
Ability to process applications for various certificates and permits, receive payments and process requests for criminal record searches and take fingerprints.
Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of files, records, statistics and reports.
Ability to operate CPIC, PRIME and JUSTIN terminal equipment.
HOURS OF WORK
Positions based on Article 13.01 which may, at the discretion of the Commanding Officer of the R.C.M.P. or the Commanding Officer’s duly appointed representative, work any seven (7) hours between the hours of 7:00 a.m. (6 a.m. effective only to new incumbents to the classification appointed following 2014 June 16 or by mutual agreement for incumbents at 2014 June 16) and 12:00 midnight, Monday to Sunday, inclusive, with shift differential as per Article 14.10. When shifts are changed, or positions hired, employees in the positions will be given shift preference on the basis of seniority.
