This position is covered by the Collective Agreement between the District of Stewart and CUPE Local 1804. The current rate as of January 1, 2020 for this position is $34.30/hr.
THE DISTRICT OF STEWART is currently seeking applications for One (1) Heavy Equipment Operator:
Duties:
Under the direction of the Superintendent of Public Works, the Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy mobile equipment (Graders, Loaders, Plow Trucks, etc.) for the purposes of road maintenance, water/sewer maintenance, snow clearing as well as the performance of manual duties such as: snow removal, sidewalk clearing, drainage ditch maintenance, and other duties as assigned from time to time. The HEO must be able to operate self propelled motor grader, form stakes, and lines and perform either rough grade finishing with the ability to learn or fine grade finishing, spreading, and mixing materials on roadway. Must be able to understand grades and have a knowledge of plans and drawings and overall road construction
Requirements:
- Applicants must be able to legally work in Canada and over 18
- Grade 12 Education or equivalent
- Class 1 Driver’s License
- Minimum of two years grader operator experience
- Minimum of two years experience in the operation of heavy equipment
- Safe work attitude
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience with public works functions, including roads, water, wastewater, and facility maintenance
- Experience with the use and maintenance of public works tools and equipment
- First Aid Certification
