As the General Manager, Financial, Legal and Legislative Services, and a member of the City of Abbotsford Strategic Leadership Team, you will arrive at a pivotal period of time to oversee the financial, legal, legislative, and administrative activities of the municipality
as it establishes itself as one of Canada’s great mid-sized cities. The City must ensure residents continue to experience a superior quality of life as the city continues its unprecedented growth. As the new General Manager you must ensure the City is fiscally responsible and seen as a good steward of public funds. In addition to Financial responsibilities, the new General Manager will also oversee Legislative Services, Property, Risk Management, Legal Services, and Procurement for the City.

The General Manager of the Financial, Legal and Legislative Services Department reports to the City Manager and is a member of the Strategic Leadership Team which provides overall corporate leadership to the City. The General Manager leads and directs the daily administration of the department and ensures the efficient and effective delivery of high quality services. There are currently 3 direct reports to the General Manager and a total team of approximately 75 staff. The General Manager, Financial, Legal and Legislative Services will oversee finance, legislative, legal, property, risk, procurement and bylaw functions for the City.

As the successful candidate, you will bring a demonstrated track record of success in a leadership business environment within a progressive municipality or other public sector organization. Having achieved rapid advancement in financial, legislative, legal, and administrative management, you have shown your potential as a leader of people with impeccable integrity, as well you are an innovative strategic thinker, and a natural relationship developer.

The General Manager, must possess an undergraduate degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Commerce or legal. A recognized designation such as Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified General Accountant (CGA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA). Lawyer (LLB) or a Master’s Degree in Business Administration is desirable. This coupled with a demonstrated track record of success as a senior leader in public sector organizations such as a municipal, regional, provincial, or federal government, with responsibility for a broad portfolio including finance (CFO experience), administration, business operations, and legal services.
