How was your weekend?  While many people throughout Canada were shoveling snow from their driveways and then scraping the ice from their windshields, there were others who were grabbing their golf clubs, launching their kayaks, hopping on their mountain bikes, or otherwise heading out to enjoy some amazing surroundings.

The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) is the regional government serving over 30,000 residents of this scenic peninsula located on the ancestral and unceded territories of the shíshálh (Sechelt) and Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) peoples.  This beautiful area is a short ferry ride from Vancouver and is known for its mild winters, famed beachcombing activities, arts, recreation, and culture.  It is a preferred tourist destination, a great place to live, work and play, and to engage in year-round activities such as biking, golfing, fishing, kayaking, and more.  For those that really like the winter snow, head up to Dakota Ridge for cross-country skiing or strap on your snow shoes and check out the amazing trails.

The SCRD is seeking someone to join the Senior Leadership Team in a newly created position of General Manager, Community Services. The ideal candidate is someone with progressive and extensive leadership experience, with subject matter expertise managing the functions and leading the teams that provide such important services to our community in areas such as recreation, public transit, fleet, facility maintenance, community halls, parks, ports, and even our cemeteries.  Preferably, you have relevant experience in a local government environment and have the demonstrated ability to develop collaborative working relationships by engaging and effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders, other levels of government, First Nations, and a Board of Directors.  This full-time, exempt position includes a competitive salary, a full benefits package, a relocation allowance, and the opportunity to work with an amazing, professional, and friendly team in one of the best spots on this planet.

Ideally, you have a Bachelor’s degree, with preference given to a Master’s degree in a community services-related discipline such as planning or recreation management and you have completed some post-secondary education in public or business administration. You are currently a member or are eligible for membership in a relevant professional association, and have at least ten (10) years’ of increasingly responsible relevant experience in the management of staff, preferably in a unionized environment, and experience in the public consultation process.  For the right applicant, an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
