This is technical support and clerical work assisting in the provision of a health and safety program for the Engineering and Parks Outside Division. An employee of this class administers first aid in the first aid room or Works Yard as required; maintains the first aid room and an inventory of first aid supplies according to required standards; and prepares and maintains records, reports and statistics. An employee of this class also assists the Safety Officer in the identification of safety-related training needs and investigation of accidents. Assists the Safety Office in the delivery of the WHIMS program, hearing tests, respirator fit testing, crew talks and other safety related programs and activities; participates in safety committee meetings as required. Maintains the gas detection equipment; calibrates and signs out equipment. Prepares and maintains related records and reports, and compiles statistics. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by Occupational Health and Safety training, and some related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, procedures, supplies and equipment used in administering first aid treatment. Sound knowledge of applicable Worker’s Compensation Board and WHMIS regulations. Ability to administer first aid treatment effectively and exercise sound judgement in referring employees for medical treatment; to assist in the identification of safety issues and to assist in the delivery of safety-related training and testing; to prepare and maintain related reports, records and statistics and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts. Experience with a return to work program is desirable. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia and Workers’ Compensation Board Occupational Health and Safety First Aid Certificate – Level II are required.

This is a temporary full time opportunity to May 31, 2021.
