We are seeking someone with excellent communication skills to assist our Environmental Services team to communicate with builders and developers and enforce bylaws. The Environmental Services and Worksite Bylaw Officer will also issue warnings and tickets for violations, collect evidence for legal proceedings, provide support in emergencies involving toxic pollutants, and provide guidance to determine the source of pollution and the required remedial actions.
Working as part of a team, the successful incumbent will draw on their proven abilities to develop communication and outreach strategies and public educational materials, liaise with a variety of internal and external contacts, collect water and soil samples for laboratory analysis, review and interpret laboratory data, and operate environmental monitoring equipment.
Our ideal candidate will have completed a degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Resource Management or a related field plus some related experience, or have an equivalent combination of training and experience. Ideally you will also have some experience and knowledge of construction and environmental best practices, provincial and federal environmental legislation, and construction drawings. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia or equivalent is required. Weekend shifts will be required.
A CUPE hourly rate of $35.68 to $42.12, a percentage in lieu of benefits, and an earned day off program are being offered.
