The District has an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled Engineering Technician II, for a term position of approximately 18 months (with potential for re-evaluation of continued work at that time) , to provide engineering and project management support. This position will be focused on landfill related projects, reports and plans in order to achieve and maintain regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will be involved in projects such as the preparation of a Landfill Design, Operations & Closure Plan, updating the Life Cycle Study Report and updating the Landfill Gas Assessment Report. They will also assist with capital improvements such as the design and construction of a new Organics Processing Facility and the installation of a Landfill Security System.

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both verbally and in writing, are necessary as the preferred candidate will assist with communication and public education. Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, MS Office and related software, and thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles, terminology, practices and techniques are also required. The applicant should have sound knowledge of municipal and provincial regulations, standards, and practices as they relate to development.

Required training and experience include:

  1. Senior Secondary School education supplemented by completion of two-year program in civil engineering technology.
  2. Minimum of seven years related municipal engineering experience.
  3. Applied Science Technologist Certificate with ASTTBC.
  4. Valid BC Driver’s License — Class 5

This is a Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) position and offers a starting wage of $39.88 per hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits. After a 900-hour probationary period the hourly wage increases to $41.98.
