The City of Burnaby is currently seeking an experienced Engineer with sound technical engineering practices, contract management and project management skills to join the Engineering Project Management Division as an Engineer – Project Management. This role performs engineering related work at the professional level managing the design, contract administration, and inspection of the City’s capital construction program. The position works closely with consultants, contractors, City inspectors, administration staff, Operations and Maintenance staff, outside agencies, and members of the public. Provides control and reporting over project scope, coordination, scheduling, budgeting, and finalization. Prepares terms of reference for design and construction administration proposals from external consultants. Evaluates proposals and recommends consultant selection. Reviews and approves engineering design and drafting work performed by consultants. Prepares and reviews specifications, cost estimates, plans and contract documents related to public works projects and checks similar data performed by others. Evaluates tenders and recommends selection of contractor and ensures conformance of contractor’s work to City standards and specifications. Establishes and maintains effective working relations with a wide variety of internal and external contacts, including the public, in providing information and assistance on matters related to the work. Prepares related written reports for supervisor and/or Director Engineering as required. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include a University degree in Engineering with eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng), orsenior E.I.T. and 3 to 5 years of Municipal infrastructure design and construction experience, with associated experience in project management and contract administration. Experience in a Municipal public works setting as well as experience within an SAP, or computer based work environment. Ability to work independently. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
