Digital Communications Coordinator
Temporary Full Time

The Communications Department is looking for a temporary full time Digital Communications Coordinator to join their team for approximately two (2) years.
In this position you will be responsible for maintaining the City’s website and social media channels. Website maintenance responsibilities include writing, editing and producing individual web pages, web sections and updating the homepage. This work includes designing and building new web pages and web sections, creating online forms and surveys, and selecting and customizing tailored graphics and images. In addition, you will work with City departments to assist in their outreach needs; updating their web information, assisting with their online requirements, and ensuring that the content is accurate. You will support the City’s citizen apps as well as maintain and help guide staff in their use of the City’s online engagement software. You will also update and maintain the City’s social media channels proactively and reactively, in a creative, conversational and engaging manner, delivering City news and information, as well as City events and partner information. Pre-programming postings via Hootsuite and responding to social media inquiries are also required. You will work closely with fellow Communications staff, ensuring that all campaigns, engagement projects, promotions, important/urgent information are represented on the City’s website and social media channels.
You will have considerable related work experience in the area of web work, website design, front -end website management, basic back-end knowledge, social media, communications and writing, supplemented by courses in information technology or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A thorough understanding of the technologies and tools specific to the development of website, apps, third party software, and social media platforms is required. The ability to conduct analytical assessments of website user practices is required as well as knowledge of industry best practices, trends and user expectations. You will also have demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, considerable knowledge of strategic communications, and excellent written communication. A valid BC Class 5 driver’s license and attendance at evening and weekend events are a requirement of this position.
Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete standardized tests or exercises to demonstrate their applicable skills and knowledge.
For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
$33.60 – 39.56 per hour
(Pay Grade 22 – January 2019 rates)
Hours of Work:
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every 3-week scheduling cycle.
