The City of Colwood is home to more than 17,000 residents and located 25 minutes from downtown Victoria.  As a rapidly growing seaside community with a recently adopted Official Community Plan (2018) Colwood the Development Services Department is responsible for a variety of land administration tasks for the City including rezoning, development permitting, development variance permitting and more.  The OCP prioritizes the natural environment through Site Adaptive Planning Principles, pedestrians over automobiles, and sustainable development. 

The City of Colwood has an exciting opportunity for a FULL-TIME REGULAR DEVELOPMENT SERVICES PLANNER 2 as a result of department restructuring and internal promotion.  This is a UNION position with CUPE, local 374. Under the Director of Development Services and reporting to the Manager of Development Services, the Development Services Planner 2 will be responsible for providing professional and technical level duties, independence and judgement, and requires intermediate planning experience of medium complexity and variety of all manner of development applications.  The position requires a good understanding of planning and community development and must have the ability to think innovatively and adapt to changing priorities.


  1. University degree from a recognized institution in a related field (urban planning, geography, environmental science); a Masters degree is considered an asset.
  2. Certified Member (MCIP RPP) with the Planning Institute of BC and the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  3. 5 years of experience in land use planning work preferably with a local government, or an equivalent of education and experience.
  4. Training and/or experience in the use of recognized office computer software, and land development software.
  5. Valid BC Drivers License, Class 5.
