The Resort Municipality of Whistler is a one-of-a-kind community and is often recognized as the number one mountain and ski resort destination in North America. It has a thriving four-season events calendar, and arts and culture sector. Whistler was the Host Mountain Resort for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Financially sound and responsive to an engaged mayor and council, this is a high performance municipal organization serving a community of almost 12,000 people and three million annual visitors. As an economic generator of over $1.53 billion annually, Whistler is key to British Columbia’s tourism economy.
The Council Coordinator’s role is to prepare Council meetings agendas and packages for all public, closed and public hearing meetings of Council. The Council Coordinator drafts and reviews the minutes of the Regular Council Meetings, Committee of the Whole Meetings and Public Hearings. The Council Coordinator writes a variety of correspondence and creates and coordinates the majority of records related to Council decisions and direction. The Council Coordinator keeps the RMOW bylaw registry up-to-date with all adopted and in-process bylaws, consolidates amended bylaws and performs research and special project assignments as required. This role requires availability and flexibility to attend meetings outside normal working hours on a regular basis.
Qualified candidates will have a grade 12 diploma and completed a business administration certificate or a comparable program supplemented by 3-5 years of previous experience in a similar administrative role with extensive minute taking experience and, working knowledge of formal meeting procedures and rules of order (Robert’s Rule of Order). Candidates must have good knowledge of business communication and ideally local government administration with advanced skills in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom Webinar, and knowledge of eSCRIBE for creation and distribution of all Council meeting agendas, packages and minutes. Knowledge of parliamentary procedure and of the Community Charter and Local Government Act will be considered strong assets.
The successful candidate has a professional, positive, approachable and helpful demeanor and skills as a fast-paced, detail- oriented, and well-organized individual with the ability to work well under pressure, complete multiple assignments and meet firm deadlines with accuracy. The successful candidate will maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information and demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills with the strong ability to work closely with others and contribute to a positive team environment. As a requirement of the position, the successful candidate must provide a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
