This is specialized volunteer program coordination in delivering a variety of city-wide volunteer based programs to support citizen’s health promotion, health prevention and independent living in the community. An incumbent plans, directs and implements volunteer programs such as public health promotion and/or prevention clinics, grocery shopping programs, volunteer visitors and lunch programs; baby cuddle program; recruits volunteers for various community programs offered through Citizen’s Support; interviews candidates, conducts criminal records checks and selects volunteers; prepares descriptions of the work volunteers perform and provides volunteers with the expectations of the job; plans and conducts volunteer orientation sessions; coordinates or provides individual training and reviews the performance of volunteers; maintains liaison with internal and external contacts; promotes interest, participation, and support for the programs; represents the department at external meetings, as required; drafts promotional materials related to program; maintains a variety of files, records and statistics related to the work; prepares reports on program effectiveness; monitors specific program funds. Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications include graduation from a Certificate Program in Volunteer Management from a recognized Community College supplemented by commercial courses and sound related experience; courses in gerontology are desirable; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the work; of community resources as related to the needs, interests and requirements of senior and disabled citizens in Burnaby; of the methods and practices in the recruiting and utilization of volunteers. Ability to plan, direct and implement specific volunteer programs for senior and disabled citizens and for new mom’s dealing with post partum depression; to interview clients and volunteers and to select and match volunteers with clients; to establish and maintain effective liaison and contact with volunteers, clients, other internal and external contacts, and promote public interest and support for various programs. A valid class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia, St. John’s First Aid Certificate, and CPR Certificate are required.

This is a temporary full time opportunity to December 17, 2021.
