Community Recreation Healthy Living Coordinator

The District of Clearwater is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as the Community Recreation Healthy Living Coordinator. Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, this position is responsible for the coordination of the Community Recreation / Healthy Living Program.
The Community Recreation/Healthy Living Coordinator will play an instrumental role in planning, organizing and directing the overall operation of our excellent recreation program and services to meet the existing and emerging needs of the community. The position is responsible for delivery of all health, fitness and recreation programs, initiatives and events in order to provide increased opportunities and to encourage and promote a healthy lifestyle for people of all ages and stages. The successful incumbent will prepare, monitor the operating budget; lead the development of short and long range plans, policies and programs and provide direction and guidance to program instructors and volunteers including recruitment, performance management, training and coaching.
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of municipal government, including supervision of staff, planning, delivery, coordination, marketing, budgeting and evaluation of recreation, health / fitness programs and services. In addition, the coordinator is responsible to recruit, supervise, coordinate and schedule instructors and volunteers within the programs. The incumbent must exercise independence of judgment and action within the limits of established policies, procedures and guidelines of the District of Clearwater.
The role requires expert knowledge of leadership concepts; principles and objectives of a community development approach for delivery of recreation services, financial and information management systems. The ability to plan, assign, train, mentor and review the work of instructors and volunteers and to orient, lead and motivate the same is critical to the success of the role. The successful incumbent will deal with confidential and sensitive information and requires an understanding of the Freedom of Information Protection of Privacy is required. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
Preference will be given to those with qualifications that include sound related experience including training and experience in the area recreation / healthy living, or completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized educational institute, and related certifications; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
This excluded position is full-time and offers benefits upon successful completion of a three month probation.
