This position involves moderately complex clerical and typing work in the Stenography Department of the Burnaby RCMP Detachment. An incumbent is responsible for work which involves initiative in planning the sequence of duties and the methods to be employed.  Along with performing transcription duties using a variety of methods, duties include word processing reports, letters, memos and forms.  An incumbent enters members’ leave on computer (JUSTIN) and performs other related querying and data entry duties as required.  Additional duties may also include preparing and maintaining a variety of records and statistics including taking meeting minutes and entering traffic violations in TSMIT.  Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications include high school graduation supplemented by typing, word processing and standard commercial subjects and considerable experience as a Clerk Typist 2 or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of standard clerical procedures and the ability to use common office equipment.  Sound knowledge of the methods and practices performing related RCMP computer terminal operational work is required.  An incumbent should be able to use software programs including MS Word, and Start-Stop Omniversal.  Working knowledge of JUSTIN, PRIME, TEAM, TSMIT, and NCDB would be an asset.  Sound knowledge of business English in written and oral form.  Understanding of the functions, regulations and rules governing the Department’s operations and activities is required. Ability to deal effectively with internal and external clients.  The incumbent must obtain and maintain an Enhanced RCMP Security Clearance.
