Do you enjoy solving problems, working on a variety of equipment and being part of a talented team?  If so the District of Saanich may be the place for you.  We’re looking for a Certified Mechanic to join our dynamic Fleet team.  Our current team consists of technicians with great personalities, talented repair skills, and high degree of pride in their workmanship.  It is this group of dedicated people who keep our 250 pieces of equipment reliable and safe.  Many of these pieces of equipment are unique and will challenge your inspection, diagnostic and repair skills! 

The successful candidate will work in the Fleet Section of the Public Works Division. This Certified Mechanic performs work at the journey-level demanding skill and ability of the trade. Duties include specific tasks which require skills in heavy duty, automotive and diesel mechanics, as well as welding, maintenance, electrical and body refinishing work on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.

Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent; Trades Qualification Certificate and Certificate of Apprenticeship in commercial transport, automotive or heavy duty mechanics; four years of related experience including the apprenticeship experience; BC Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program Inspector’s Authorization Certificate; Certificate of Attendance from a vocational/technical school for ARC and MIG welding and/or equivalent experience; valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence with an air brake endorsement. 

In addition, the ideal candidate will have the required knowledge to perform diagnostics on a variety of equipment using computerized scan tools; extensive knowledge of WCB regulations, WHMIS, and the Motor Vehicle Act; a willingness to attend in-service training programs offered at Saanich or other authorized agencies.  Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  The successful candidate will be required to work Monday to Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.; 40 hours per week.

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $37.34 per hour plus benefits.
