On October 2, 2019, the City of Vancouver Council passed a motion to establish a new audit function, an independent Auditor General Office for the City of Vancouver (AGO Vancouver). Council’s decision to adopt an auditor general model over other auditing models has important implications for the new institution’s design, mandate, and placement as well as the profile and recruitment of the individual who will occupy the post. As part of the inaugural AGO office, you will be responsible for staffing, developing administrative office policies and procedures for the audit office, audit methodology, determining the professional standards to adhere to, as well as managing relationships with Council, City management and citizens. The Auditor General will carry out financial (excluding attest), compliance and performance audits of all programs, activities and functions of all City departments, the offices of the Mayor and members of Council, Boards and City-Controlled Corporations as well as submit an audit plan to Council annually.

The ideal candidate holds a university degree, professional accounting designation and at least 12 years of related experience, ideally ten of which are in a municipal, provincial and/or federal government auditing environment. You have extensive senior level experience in auditing principles, practices, and standards through your work with large and complex organizations.  You bring a reputation for integrity, effective leadership, communication, and collaborative problem-solving style. You have highly developed analytical and business planning skills and reputation for delivering results. Committed to raising the bar for performance, you understand and are motivated by the challenges of taking on an inaugural role leading auditing in a dynamic, multi-stakeholder, multi-union environment.
