The City of Maple Ridge Fire Department is looking for an energetic and highly skilled leader for the position of Assistant Fire Chief – Training and Safety. This position will provide vision and leadership to the City of Maple Ridge’s Fire Department Training, Safety and Operations Divisions.

As a key member of the management team, reporting to the Fire Chief, the Assistant Chief – Training and Safety you will manage all aspects of the Fire Department’s Training and Safety Programs. You will have extensive experience with training in a fire service setting, department safety programs, mitigation response and recovery for major emergencies and incidents.  You possess knowledge, training and practical experience in this expansive portfolio. This position has a broad range of responsibilities and exercises considerable freedom requiring a high degree of integrity, diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality.

You support and liaise with the Fire Department Leadership Team, City staff, and work with other external organizations.  Your community engagement and facilitation skills allow you to plan, deliver and evaluate training for all City firefighting, career and paid-on-call staff, and external stakeholders. You will have a bachelor’s degree with extensive Fire Service programs or an equivalent combination of formal education and extensive fire service training experience. 

You are a capable leader with excellent critical thinking, budgeting, time management and strategic planning skills.  You have exceptional interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated report writing and public speaking capabilities.  You have demonstrated public relations and team building skills and experience.

This position requires you to have a current Class 3 Driver’s License, a satisfactory driving record and criminal record check.
